From the Owl’s Nest – Celestial Observations Occurring Some great stuff happening over the next few months. November, December AND January’s full moon are Supermoons. Supermoons happen when a full moon approximately coincides with the moon’s perigee, or a point in its orbit at which it is closest to Earth. We also have the Ursids meteor showers. They’re active from December 17th to December 23rd. The Ursids are often neglected due to the fact it peaks just before Christmas and the rates are much less than the Geminids, which peaks just a week before the Ursids. The Winter Solstice is occurring Thursday, December 21st at 11:28 am EST. This is the day with the shortest amount of daylight. After this the days start getting longer. Yippee!! And if that’s not enough…we have 2, yes 2 Blue Moons next year. The first is on Jan 31st and the second is on March 31st. You’ll have to wait til 2020 for the next Blue Moon. The Blue Moon, also called a Goal Moon, is a rare occurrence. It happens only when there are 2 Full Moon’s in one month. During this time a very special type of Magick can be preformed…write your intentions for the rest of the year on a piece of paper and place it under a candle on the day before the Blue Moon occurs. Burn the candle on this day, the day of and the day after the Full Moon, no set amount of time. On that last day burn the paper with your intentions written on it in the flame of the candle envisioning the goals you want to achieve. Scatter the ashes outside. A blue candle scented with Sandalwood is usually used for this. You can use any blue candle with any scent that’s pleasing to you if you can’t find one scented with Sandalwood. Til next time… |
